I am a board certified music therapist and masters level special educator. I have played piano since the age of nine and studied music at Loyola University in New Orleans. My background as a special education teacher and a music therapist has helped me to acquire the skills to communicate with and effectively teach students of all ability levels. I love music, and I love teaching! I believe that music is an art form in which ALL people can actively participate. My teaching method is focused on making learning music fun. I teach the fundamentals of playing and reading music while students learn to play their favorite songs and build a personal repertoire of music that is meaningful to them.
Currently, my students perform in a piano recital once per year. The recital is held in November prior to Thanksgiving at Poydras Home, an assisted living facility on Magazine Street. Students take an active role in selecting the music they will perform and are required to play at least one piece by a well known classical composer. This past year, the students gave an exceptional performance to a large crowd of family, friends, and residents of the Poydras Home facility. They each performed three pieces and courageously introduced themselves and their music along with a brief story about the composer. I was very proud of all of their hard work!
